The use of the phrase “Professional teacher” in the title of this article is deliberate for the reason that it makes one think about whom a professional is allows one question whether teachers in Ghana could be considered professional in the same way as doctors or lawyers and to some extent footballers. In this particular context, the word professional is drawn-out to include those characteristics of occupations that justify special standing because of the expertise required to perform or because of the important social function it performs.
